The primary and basic aim of powerflushing a central heating system is to remove all of the sludge (iron oxide), which causes radiators not to heat up correctly and to generally block the pipe work which connects the boiler to the radiators.
The powerflushing entails draining the central heating system down and introducing chemicals which remove the sludge and blockages. Once this is done the system is cleaned with fresh water and an inhibitor is added for future protection.
Magnets also aid the trapment of the iron oxide filings.
Normally depending on the size of the property one day will be required for this job.
In addition we also strongly recommend a Spirovent central heating magnetic protector and cleaner be installed, to further protect the system in future years.
In very bad cases of sludging radiator valves can seize and central heating pumps can also make some horrible noises. Also radiators will develop patches of cold area.
If time and care is taken powerflushing can be very beneficial and also can protect against central heating breakdown.
Our charge for powerflushing a typical central heating system with 7 radiators is £425. Depending on the amount of chemicals required a normal charge would be £75. For the totally blocked system we remove radiators and physically remove sludge.
SYSTEM FLUSH
System flushing is carried out using chemical cleaners and inhibitor and supported by a Spirovent central heating magnetic cleaner. This flush takes approximately half a day and permanently and continuously cleans the central heating system between servicing. |
